Patuakhali town protection: Project file awaits clearance
The Planning Commission asked the ministry to inform the effects in the town after implementation of the project, the sources told this correspondent.
Meanwhile, the Environment Ministry appointed an environmental consultant to find out the environmental effects. The consultant will submit his report to the ministry within two months.
BWDB Executive Engineer Abdul Majid Mollah told this correspondent following receipt of environmental clearance, the project file will be sent to the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) for approval.
Every year in the rainy season, Patuakhali town goes under three to four feet water during high tide due to lack of an embankment.
Originally, the town protection embankment-cum-drainage project was taken up seven years ago, but it has been stalled.
The Tk17.27 cr project includes construction of a 4.20-km flood control embankment, one kilometre wall and installation of seven sluice gates and four power pumps in 38 outlets.
