People returning home: Flag meet tomorrow
The meeting would follow skirmishes between BDR and BSF on Amolshid border in Zakiganj on Wednesday after Indian border guards intruded into Bangladesh to occupy 256 acres of land near border pillar No. 1354.
The two border guards traded about 1800 shots in five hours.
A Bangladeshi--Abul Kalaminjured in the crossfire, is being treated at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College hospital.
BDR reinforcement in the border will remain in force as BSF also increased its strength after the incident, Commander of 38 Rifles Battalion Lt. Col. Abu Tasnim told the Daily Star yesterday.
BDR will be represented by a 7-member team led by the Battalion Commander, he said.
Meanwhile, the situation on Zakiganj border is returning to normalcy as people are returning to their homes in Amolshid, Uttarkul and Kazipara villages.
The Indian border guards crossed the river by country boats and tried to occupy the lands but their attempt was foiled by of BDR.
BDR sources said the 256 acres are in Bangladesh territory since 1947 and Bangladesh nationals have been cultivating the lands since then.
