Punishment to 'rapist' demanded

Before submission of the memo they brought out a procession and paraded the main streets of the upazila. A protest meeting was also held where Shahidul Islam, Habibur Rahman, Subol Chandra Ghosh and Sujit Roy addressed.

Offering biscuit, rapist Suruj Mia of Fulchhari Uupazila Sadar called a minor daughter of Anil Chandra Ghosh in his room and raped her on the fateful day. When the child cried, local people rushed there, caught the rapist and recovered the victim profusely bleeding. They shifted her to Gaibandha hospital in a critical condition where she is fighting for life.

Agitated people gave rapist Suruj a good beating and handed over him to local Union Parishad chairman Begum Shahida Islam. Ultimately he was sent to Fulchhari thana where a case was lodged.

They further alleged that the family of members of rapist continued to threat victim's family to withdraw case.
