Rifle, bullets 'snatched' from police recovered from Meghna

One rifle and five rounds of bullets presumably belonging to police were recovered from the Meghna on April 20.

Two fishermen found the arms and ammunition while they were fishing in the river with their nets on the day.

According of police, Binod Chandra Das, son of Promod Chandra Das and Suranjon Chandra Das, son of Rabindra Chandra Das of Lalpur village in Ashuganj were fishing in the river near to the spot of a launch dacoity, committed on January 27. At one stage of their fishing with nets, they pulled the arms and ammunition. At once they informed police and the Additional superintendent of police (SP), Md Jahangir Hossain accompanied by the officer-in-charge (OC) of the detective branch (DB) of police, Md Shafiuzzan rushed to the spot and received those from the fishermen.

A launch piracy was committed in the mighty Meghna on January 27 when pirates snatched four rifles and ammunition from the on-duty police in the launch.

With this arms recovery, in total three rifles were recovered while the rest one is yet to be traced.

The two fishermen were given cash award, police sources informed.
