Rivals PCJSS, Somo Odhikar hold rallies

The Parbatya Chattgram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) yesterday observed the 9th anniversary of signing of the CHT peace accord with a fresh pledge to intensify agitation for full implementation of the accord.

PCJSS held a rally on Gymnasium premises at Rangamati. Its vice president Laxmi Prasad Chakma was the chief guest at the rally, presided over by its district president Gunendu Bikash Chakma.

Speakers there alleged that in last nine years, neither the BNP governmnet nor the Awami League governmnet took any step for full implemention of the peace accord.

They also alleged that some vested quarters under the banner of Samo Odhikar Andolan (SOA) trying to destabilise the situation in the CHT and destroy peace. They are demanding scraping of the peace accord.

The also criticised the previous Awami League government, saying it betrayed with the indigenous people in CHT.

The PCJSS leaders termed United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF) a 'terrorist organisation and a broker of the government. UPDF opposes the teace accord.

They urged urged PCJSS activists to guard against anti-peace activities by UPDF.

Samo Odhikar Andolan (SOA), a platform of Bangalee settlers which opposes the peace accord, also held a rally on Municipality office premises in Rangamati.

Jatiya Ganatantrik Party president Safiul Alam Paradhan addressed the rally as chef guest while SOA central president Mostak Ahmed Chowdhury was in the chair.

They termed the peace accord 'discriminatory and a black agreement' and demanded its annulment, removal of PCJSS chief Jyotirindriya Bodhipriya larma alias Santu Larma from the post of CHT Regional Council chairman.
