Road barricade to protest Rab action

The barricades snapped all road communications from Sirajganj district town for over four hours.

Rab members beat up Abdus Salam, a bus driver of Shawon Paribahan, at 7.45 am on M A Matin Road near the main bus station as his bus became inoperative there due to mechanical fault, according to transport leaders, police and Rab sources.

Salam is now undergoing treatment in a critical condition at Moyeen Uddin Memorial Hospital in the town.

The incident agitated the transport workers, who, within mo-ments assembled and demonstrated to protest Rab action. They brought out a procession in the town and blocked all the roads by buses, burnt tyres and threw stones towards Rab and policemen.

The Rab members charged batons on the protesters leaving 12 of them injured. A tense situation prevailed in the area.

A team of Rab high officials rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control after holding a discussion with the transport leaders.
