Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Samajtantrik Chhtara Front (SCF) yesterday staged separate demonstrations on the Rajshahi University (RU) campus demanding immediate removal of two 'controversial' pro-Jamaat teachers.

The teachers are former Shibir leader Shahal Uddin and pro-Jamaat Abdur Rahim Sagar of the Department of Law and Justice.

RU Syndicate appointed Shahal Uddin a teacher in face of threats of Jamaat-backed teachers while Jamaat-loyal 'controversial' teacher Abdur Rahim Sagar

misappropriated money of the admission test by forging signature of a departmental employee.

A probe committee found Sager guilty and suggested punitive action against him. But the department did not take any action against him.

Leaders of the two student organisations met Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Altaf Hossain at his office separately and demanded immediate cancellation of appointments of the two teachers for greater interest of the university.

BCL also held a meeting in front of the central library where its leaders blamed the BNPJammat government for politicisation in all departments of the university.

They threatened a tougher agitation against the university authorities if their demands are not met immediately.

Earlier, RU Syndicate appointed seven teachers in the Department of Law and Justice ignoring recommendations of its planning committee and a decision of the university selection board.
