RU teacher gets death threat
Zulfiker Ahmed who received the death threats filed a general diary (GD) with Motiher Police Station.
He said that the telephone caller identifying himself as Abdul Halim, a student of 3rd year Honours class of the department, asked him at about 10.30am to resign immediately. Otherwise, they threatened to kill him like the other teachers murdered recently.
The same caller threatened him again at about 11am asking him to refrain from informing journalists and police.
However, law department sources said there is no student called Abdul Halim in the department.
The teacher informed the matter to vice chancellor, registrar, proctor and others seeking security of life.
Meanwhile, teachers and students of the department expressed their deep concern over the incident and urged the university authorities to ensure Zulfiker's safety and security on the campus.
Campus sources said, the Islamic Chhatra Shibir (ICS) activists joined by outsiders enforced a day-long strike on the campus demanding removal of Zulfiker from the department for what they termed ' his immoral activities'.
Shibir held a press conference at the central cafeteria where one Abdul Halim identified himself as a student of the department. Halim threatened to continue their agitation until removal of the teacher.
However, a reliable source said, Shibir activist Abdul Halim is a 3rd year student of Arabic Department and resides at Bangabandhu Hall.
