Success in campaign against dowry

They have launched a motivation campaign to encourage dowry-free marriage and got a good response from people.

They arranged a dowry-free marriages recently with the help of Ballamjhan Union Parishad Chairman and freedom fighter Mozammel Huq Mandol and local people.

Salina Akhter Trishna, daughter of Shahidur Rahman Tuku and Mamunur Rashid, son of Abdul Hamid Sarker of village Santola in Sadullapur Upazila were married recently without any dowry.

"We want to see Ballamjhar as a dowry-free union," said Kazi Altaf Hossain Doller, who played a vital role in the social movement.

"It is really a hard task to convince parents of bridegrooms but we have succeeded in out motivation campaign", he said.

"I extended all possible support to the noble campaign launched by the youths", Mozammel Huq told this correspondent.

"Several tragic incidents over dowry took place in my union in recent times. It will be a great success if I can free my union of the curse", he said.

The campaign has created an awareness among people against dowry, he added.

Members of Gram Sarker and other UP leaders are also extending all out support to the campaign, he said.
