Urea seized in St Martin's
Cost Guard personnel and police seized a fishing boat with 100 bags of urea fertiliser while being smuggled to Myanmar through the coast near St Martin's island in Cox's Bazar yesterday.
Two alleged smugglers were arrested. They are Abdul Halim and Mofiz, hailing from Ukhiya and Teknaf respectively.
Urea is smuggled to Myanmar through Ukhiya and Teknaf, which has created a scarcity and high price of the item in Cox's Bazar, police said.
A 50 kg bag of urea is now sold at Tk 550 to Tk 600 against the government fixed price of Tk 280 in different markets in Cox's Bazar, traders and farmers said.
