Wild elephant's onslaught on Magura village

One person was critically injured by a wild elephant on Monday.

Anarul Molla, 40, son of Ibrahim Molla of Barishat village in Sreepur upazila sustained injuries while chasing an elephant. Two elephants were damaging crops on his cropland. He was admitted to Magura Sadar Hospital.

Police officials told this correspondent the elephants entered Bangladesh from India through Mujibnagar Border Out Post (BOP) in Meherpur district on Friday.

Indian Forest officials came to Meherpur to take back the elephants on Saturday. But they went back as the elephants entered deep inside the Bangladesh territory. The elephants came to Barishat through Harinakundu and Sailkupa upazilas of adjoining Jhenidah district on Sunday night.

One platoon of BDR (Bangladesh Rifles) and a police team are following the elephants.

The elephants took a deep in the Nabaganga at Bagdanga village in Sreepur upazila and created panic among local people when this correspondent dispatched this report at 1 pm on Monday.
