Withdrawal of Rab worries Jhenidah people

They apprehend the return of outlaws resulting in rise in crimes.

According to locals, the law and order improved considerably in the entire district following launching of anti-crime drive since September last year.

Rab members conducted drives Jhenidah and three other adjoining districts from a temporary camp set up in Chuadanga.

All on a sudden, the Rab members were withdrawn on Wednesday.

According to a competent source, all Rab personnel were withdrawn following corruption charge against two members of the elite force, Sub-Inspector (SI) Salam and Havilder Zakaria. They allegedly took Tk 1 lakh from Sushil of Chuadanga pledging release of his business partners. They were charged with stealing trees (public property) in Haiderpur area on the Jhenidah-Chuadanga highway. They were arrested on March 8.

When both the SI and the havilder were trying to release the thieves, the Commanding Officer of Rab-6 Captain Hasan intervened and recovered Tk 30,000 from them and closed them to Khulna.

Sushil filed a case with Chuadanga Police Station against the SI and the havilder on charge of taking bribe from him on Monday.

Both Salam and Zakaria were sent to jail hajat on Wednesday.

Rab officials, however, told newsmen that despite withdrawal of the camp, anti-crime operations would be launched in Jhenidah and three other adjoining districts from Khulna.
