2 workers die as mound collapses in Tangail construction site

Two workers died when a mound of earth collapsed on them at an under-construction site in Tangail town today.

The deceased were identified as Ananda Paul (35) and Nidhan Paul (30) of Kashil village under Tangail's Basail upazila.

Rezaul Karim, assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defense in Tangail, told our local correspondent that five workers were digging earth at a 14ft deep spot in an under-construction structure this morning.

During heavy rain around 11:30 am, a large pile of earth collapsed on two of them, while other three managed to escape.

After receiving information, the fire department went to the spot and launched a rescue operation. Two bodies were recovered during the one and a half hours long operation.

Shamim Ahmed, inspector of Tangail Sadar Police Station, said that the bodies will be handed over to the deceased's family after legal procedures.
