College student drowns, 2 siblings go missing in Bandarban’s Sangu River

A tourist drowned while two siblings went missing in the Sangu river in Bandarban's Rowangchhari upazila this noon.

The deceased, Maria Islam (19), was a college student in Narayanganj, reports our Chattogram correspondent quoting Mirza Zahir Uddin, inspector (investigation) of Rowangchhari Police Station.

The missing tourists were identified as Ahnad Akib (22), a student of Brac University, and his sister Mariam Binte Adni (16), the inspector said.

"A group of 10 family members went to visit Badhura waterfall of Rowangchhari's Betchhara area from Narayanganj's Fatulla around 2:00pm," said police officer.

"Eight family members went into the water to bathe near the waterfall. Among them, one drowned and two went missing," the inspector said quoting locals.

Locals rescued Maria and sent her to Bandarban Sadar Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared her dead, the police official added.
