Eight burned in hydraulic cylinder blast at Ctg iron depot
Eight people sustained burn injuries after a hydraulic cylinder exploded at an iron depot on Sagorika Road under Pahartali Police Station in Chattogram city this afternoon.
Sub-Inspector Nurul Alam Ashek, in-charge of the Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) police outpost, told The Daily Star that the explosion occurred around 5:00pm at a local iron depot. The eight victims were admitted to the Burn and Plastic Surgery Department of CMCH.
Police sources said the explosion took place inside JS Enterprise and NS Traders.
Jasim Uddin, officer-in-charge of Pahartali Police Station, said they are to receive any information about that.
S Khaled, assistant professor of the Burn and Plastic Surgery Ward at CMCH, confirmed that all eight patients were in critical condition, suffering inhalation injuries and damage to their respiratory tracts.
He added that the victims sustained burn injuries covering 30 to 85 percent of their bodies.
