Father, 5-yr-old daughter killed as truck hits bike in Bagerhat

A man and his five-year-old daughter died after a truck hit his motorcycle on the Bagerhat-Khulna highway in Bagerhat's Fakirhat upazila last night.

The deceased were identified as Sohel Faraji, 37, of Sarankhola upazila and his daughter Nawrin Akhter.

Sohel's wife Mimi Akhter, 32 and their elder daughter Nawsheen, 10, suffered critical injuries.

The accident took place at 9:15pm on Thursday when the couple along with their two children were going to Khulna from Sarankhola on the motorcycle, said Sub-Inspector Hasanur Rahman of Katakhali Highway Police Station.

The four persons fell on the road and suffered critical injuries after the truck hit the motorcycle. They were rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared Sohel and Nawrin dead, he added.

Mimi and Nawsheen were receiving treatment at the hospital.

Police seized the truck and detained driver Shahjahan Sardar, 38, after the accident, the SI told our Bagerhat correspondent.
