Ferry hitting Padma bridge: Ferry master and helmsman suspended
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has suspended ferry master and helmsman of Kakoli ferry for hitting pillar number 10 of the Padma Bridge.
The ferry hit the bridge this morning, and was the fourth ferry to hit the structure in the span of a month.
The action was taken against them for their inability to ply the ferry properly, reports our Munshiganj correspondent quoting Md Jahangir Alam, senior information officer of the shipping ministry.
"The ferry master and helmsman were suspended as they failed to ply the ferry on Shimulia-Banglabazar route properly," he said.
No decision of forming a probe body in this regard was reached when this report was filed around 8:30pm.
