Five auto-rickshaw passengers crushed to death by bus in Gazipur
Four passengers and the driver of a battery-run auto-rickshaw died last night (July 30, 2022) when a bus ran over them at Kaliakair upazila in Gazipur.
Four of the deceased were identified as Atiqul Islam (35), Mehedi (30), Siddikur Rahman (35), autorickshaw driver Nazrul Islam (34), and one other deceased could not be identified yet, our local correspondent reports quoting Sub-Inspector (SI) Rahat of Kaliakair Police Station.
For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel. Quoting eye-witnesses and locals, Sub-Inspector Rahat, said that four people were returning home in an auto-rickshaw from Chandra area after work. The accident took place in T&T Battala area of the upazila at 11pm last night.
After being hit by a bus, passengers of the auto-rickshaw's fell on the road. A second bus, coming from behind, ran over them. Two people died on the spot and three others died after being taken to the upazila health complex.
"The bus is now in police custody. Legal action is underway," the SI added.
