Infant dies falling from mother’s lap as pick-up van hits bike in Jhenaidah

A one-and-a-half-month-old baby died after falling off his mother's lap during a road accident in Kaliganj upazila of Jhenaidah.

The accident took place when a pick-up van hit a motorcycle around 9:00am today (September 9, 2022) in the town's bus stand area, our local correspondent reports quoting Abdur Rahim Mollah, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kaliganj Police Station.

The deceased was identified as Sijan, the OC said.  

The baby's mother Shanta Khatun and grandfather Abul Kalam also suffered injuries in the incident.

According to witnesses, Shanta's father was riding the motorcycle while Shanta and the baby were on the back of the bike on their way to a doctor's visit.

On the way, a pickup van bound for Jhenaidah hit their motorcycle from the rear resulting in the baby falling off. The infant died on the spot.

Locals rescued the injured and admitted them to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex. They also caught the driver and handed him over to police.

Abdur Rahim Mollah, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kaliganj Police Station, confirmed the incident.
