Inspector from Turag dies as covered van hits his car in Narayanganj

An officer of Turag Police Station died after a covered van and his car collided head-on in Narayanganj’s Araihazar upazila last night.

The deceased was identified as Md Shafiullah, inspector (investigation) of the police station.

The accident took place around 11:30pm when the police officer was on his way to his village home in the upazila after performing duties in Turag area, said Mehedi Hasan, officer-in-charge of Turag Police Station.

As he reached near Purinda Bazar area on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway, a covered van collided with his car. Later, fire officials rushed there, cut off parts of the car and rescued him with critical injuries, he said.

Shafiullah was rushed to a private hospital in Rupganj where doctors declared him dead, he added.

A sub-inspector of Kanchpur Highway Police Station said police seized the covered van but its driver fled.

Filing of a case is underway.
