Angry locals set bus on fire, beat up driver and helper

A man was killed and two others were injured after a bus hit a battery-run auto-rickshaw on Dhaka-Narayanganj Link Road in Narayanganj's Fatullah this afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Mozammel Haque, 55, a resident of Sastapur in Fatullah.

Following the accident, angry locals and some auto-rickshaw drivers vandalised the bus of Moumita Transport Ltd, stopped another Dhaka-bound bus of the same company, and then set it on fire, said Shariful Islam, officer-in-charge of Fatullah Model Police Station.

They also beat up the bus driver, Md Rubel, 25, and his helper, Md Nayeem Mokhles, 20, and later handed them over to the police around 2:00pm, he added.

Rubel and Nayeem, who are from Dhaka's Savar area, are now receiving treatment at Narayanganj 300-bed Hospital.

The protesters also blocked the Dhaka-Narayanganj Link Road, disrupting traffic for nearly one hour, the official further said.
