RMG worker’s body found on Gazipur highway; police suspect road crash
A female garment worker was killed in a suspected road accident in the Konabari area of Gazipur City Corporation last night, police said.
The victim, Nurie Begum, 38, was the wife of Ashraful Alam from Nageshwari upazila in Kurigram. She worked as an operator at Orient Allure Lingerie Ltd.
Her dismembered body was recovered around 11:00pm from the Dhaka-Tangail highway near the Konabari College gate, said Papon Hossain, sub-inspector of Konabari Police Station.
Speaking to The Daily Star, the SI said they responded to a call made to the national emergency helpline 999.
"Preliminary investigation suggests she was run over by an unidentified vehicle while attempting to cross the highway on her way home from work around 10:00pm," he added.
The victim's body was severely mutilated. After the inquest, it was sent to the morgue of Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital in Gazipur for autopsy.
Police said legal action will be taken based on the family's complaint.
