Schoolboy dies as train hits him in the capital

A school student died after being hit by a train on his way to school in Dhaka's Nakhalpara yesterday morning.

The deceased is Zunayed Bagdadi (12), a fifth grader at Nakhalpara Government Primary School.

The accident took place around 9:15am when Zunayed was on his way to school from his home. He was first taken to a nearby hospital.

As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he died around 11:15am, said his father Ataur Rahman Jewel, a cloth trader.

"We came to know from locals that another boy was walking along the rail track when a train was approaching. As Zunayed pulled him off to save him, he got hit by the train," he said.

Hailing from Chandpur, Zunayed was the eldest among two siblings.

The body was sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy, said Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH Police Outpost.
