Sitakunda blast: Oxygen plant owners among 16 sued for negligence

Sixteen people, including owners and top officials of Sheema Oxygen Plant Limited, were sued in connection with Sunday's explosion at the oxygen plant in Chattogram Sitakunda, which left seven people dead.

Rokeya Begum, wife of victim Abdul Kader Mia filed the case last night with Sitkunda Police Station, Tofayel Ahmed, officer-in-charge of the police station, told The Daily Star.

The accused are Sheema Oxygen Ltd Managing Director Mamun Uddin, 55, directors Pervez Uddin, 48, Ashraf Uddin Bappi, Manager Abdul Alim, Plant operator In-charge Shamsuzzaman Shikdar, Plant operators- Khurshid Alam, Selim Jahan, executive director Kamal Uddin, Admin Officer Golam Kibria and officials Samiul, Santanu Ray, idris ali, Sana Ullah, Rakibul and Rajib.

The plaintiff said due to their deliberate negligence in factory operation, seven persons were killed and 25 were injured in deadly explosion and fire.

OC Tofayel said Inspector (investigation) Abu Sayeed will investigate the case.
