Six-year-old madrasa student run over by bus in Munshiganj

A madrasa student was killed after being run over by a bus in Tongibari upazila of Munshiganj this morning.

The deceased was identified as Arobi, 6, daughter of Alangir of Randhunibari village in the upazila.

Quoting witnesses, Saiful Alam, officer-in-charge of Tongibari Police Station, said that Arobi was returning home from her madrasa around 11:30am when the accident occurred.

A bus heading towards Betka from Dhaka hit the child in front of Randhunibari Government Primary School on the Dhaka-Tongibari road, leaving her dead on the spot, the OC said.

Following the incident, an agitated mob set the bus on fire after evacuating the passengers, he added.

Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, deputy assistant director of Munshiganj Fire Service Station, said that two fire-fighting units rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control after nearly an hour of efforts.

No casualties were reported from the fire, he said.
