Student, teacher dead after pick-up van ploughs through school ground in Manikganj

A student and a teacher were killed and five other students and a shopkeeper were injured after a pick-up van ploughed through a school ground at Shibaloy upazila of Manikganj today.

The deceased were identified as Jarin Tasnim (7), a class two student and teacher Fatema Nasrin (35) of Abdul Alim Memorial School.

According to locals a contractor firm named NDE, used to keep the pick-up van on the ground of the school paying rent to the authorities, reports our local correspondent.

As the driver started the pick-up van to get out of the school around 10:45 am, it ploughed into a group of students, leaving Tasnim and Fatema dead on the spot and injuring several others.

Locals caught the driver and handed him over to police.

Legal action will be taken in this regard, said Mohammad Shahin, officer-in-charge of Shibaloy Police Station.

This correspondent tried calling the managing director of the school Shahidur Rahman for his comments but his phone was found switched off.
