8-yr-old girl stabbed to death by stepmother, father attempts suicide

A man tried to kill himself after his wife allegedly stabbed his eight-year-old daughter to death in Singra upazila of Natore today.

The deceased is Hawa, 8, daughter of Hafizul, a worker at a fish enclosure, of Dighal village.

Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Singra Police Station, said Hafizul and his second wife Nupur would often quarrel over Hawa, his daughter from his first marriage.

This morning, a heated argument broke out again centring the same issue and at one stage, Nupur stabbed Hawa with a sharp weapon, leaving her dead.

Later, she threw the young girl's body in the pond.

Following the incident, Hafizul drank poison and was rushed to the hospital and is currently undergoing treatment at Sadar hospital.

On information, police arrested Nupur for interrogation.
