9 Ruet staffers concerned after receiving 'shrouds' in the post
Nine staffers of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (Ruet) expressed concerns over their security after each receiving envelops containing two pieces of white cloth today.
In a press conference at the Ruet vice-chancellor's conference room, the staffers said the white cloths resembled shrouds used for burial, our Rajshahi correspondent reports.
They said the words "Concerned Citizens' Society" were written on the envelops sent to their offices through the post and it is making them fear for their lives.
Ruet acting registrar Prof Md Salim Hossain filed a general diary with Motihar Police Station in this regard, Anwar Ali, officer-in-charge of the station said.
The staffers who got the envelops include five Ruet teachers -- Prof Md Faruk Hossain, president of Ruet Teachers Association; Prof Md Rabiul Awal, the association's general secretary; Prof Jaglul Sadat, the association's vice-president; Ruet acting registrar Prof Md Salim Hossain, and former Ruet VC Prof Md Rafiqul Islam Sheikh.
Others are -- Ruet Deputy Director Md Mamunur Rashid, Comptroller Nazim Uddin Ahmed, Assistant Engineer Md Harunur Rashid, and section officer Md Raisul Islam.According to the GD, the senders of the envelops may also be connected to an "unfortunate incident in Ruet campus on December 6".
On December 6, some Ruet staffers misbehaved with the six-member committee of Ruet to implement the National Integrity Strategy (NIS), Dilip Kumar Ghose, general secretary of Ruet Officers Association, said.
The incident occurred after the committee found some officials were absent without prior information.
They said the nine staffers who received the letters include all six members of the NIS committee.
