Application filed to show Palak arrested in attempted murder case

Police have filed an application to show former state minister for posts, telecommunications and information technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak arrested in a case filed over an attempt to kill Mohammad Shamim, a student of Dhaka College, during the quota reform movement on July 16.

Investigation Officer Md Omar Faruque, a sub-inspector of New Market Police Station, submitted the petition today with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarah Farzana Haque.

After the hearing, the magistrate directed the jail authorities to produce Palak before her court tomorrow.

On December 18, Salman F Rahman, private industry affairs adviser to former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, was shown arrested in the same case after the IO submitted an application in this regard.

According to the case statement, Shamimalleged that he was an active supporter of the quota reform movement. In line with this, he took part in the movement in front of Dhaka College at around 3:30pm on July 16, where he was injured in his nose and eyes. Later, he received treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

On November 28, Shamim filed a case against Sheikh Hasina and 115 with New Market Police Station regarding this.

Police arrested Palak from the capital's Khilkhet area on August 14.

Later, Palak was placed on a 50-day remand in different cases filed with different police stations in the capital. He has also been shown arrested in 46 cases after his arrest.
