College student files rape case against herbal medicine practitioner in Netrokona

A case was filed against a man for allegedly raping a college student from the Garo community in Durgapur upazila of Netrokona.

Durgapur Police Station's Officer-in-charge (OC) Md Mahmudul Hasan said that the 18-year-old victim herself filed the case yesterday.

The accused, Mohammad Ali, 60, an herbal medicine practitioner, went into hiding since the case was filed, OC Mahmudul said.

Efforts are underway to arrest him, he said.

According to the case statement, Ali had long been treating patients with herbal medicine in Guchhogram village of Durgapur. He had been treating the victim's elderly father for several months. During this time, Ali made advances towards the girl, and she refused.

The rape incident took place around 9:00 pm on October 7. Before fleeing, he threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident to anyone, the victim said in the case statement.
