Court issues travel ban on ex-NBR chairman Nazibur, his family

A Dhaka court today issued a travel ban on former NBR Chairman Md Nazibur Rahman, his wife Nazma Rahman and their sons Fuad Rahman and Farabi Rahman in connection with corruption allegations brought against them.

Judge Md Zakir Hossain of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court passed the order after ACC Deputy Director Md Khairul Haque, who is leading the inquiry team, submitted an application.

ACC Public Prosecutor Mir Ahmed Ali Salam moved the application on behalf of the anti-graft body.

In the application, the ACC said Nazibur Rahman, along with his wife and their sons, amassed a huge amount of money through irregularities and corruption. The couple and their sons were attempting to flee the country.

If they flee, inquiry into the allegations might be hampered. So, an order is needed to prevent them from going abroad, said the ACC in the application.

On the other hand, the same court issued a travel ban on former Awami League lawmaker from Bhola-2 constituency Ali Azam Mukul, his wife Jahanara Yasmin, their son Raihan Abid Omi and daughter Amena Azam Orshi in connection with corruption allegations brought against them.

The order came after ACC Assistant Director Bishan Paul, who is leading the inquiry team, submitted an application in this regard.

On November 13 last year, the Rapid Action Battalion arrested Ali Azam in a murder case from the capital's Hazaribagh area.
