A battery-run easy bike driver was beaten to death allegedly by a fellow driver following a trivial dispute in Jashore town today.

The deceased, Zahid Hossain, 40, son of Jalal Uddin of Pulerhat, lived on the western side of Ashram Road, police said.

According to locals, the incident occurred around 11:30am at a garage on Ashram Road. Zahid was cleaning his easy bike when an argument broke out with another driver, identified as Asha. At one stage, Asha struck Zahid with a stick, causing him to collapse.

Severely injured, Zahid was taken to Jashore General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival, said Kazi Babul, inspector (investigation) of Jashore Kotwali Police Station.

The alleged attacker has been in hiding since the incident, the police officials added.

Meanwhile, police visited the scene and are investigating the case. Zahid's body was sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy, added the inspector.
