PBI unearths UP member’s murder mystery in Mymensingh; 4 arrested

The Police Bureau of Investigation has unearthed the mystery of a murder of a union parishad member in Mymensingh and arrested four persons over their alleged involvement with it.

The arrestees are Ashikur Rahman 35, Rahat Hossain Tanmoy 25, Md Parash Chowdhury Shraban 29, and Md Ehteshamul Haque Nishat, 25.

A team of PBI of Mymensingh arrested the four from Dapunia Khejurtala intersection area under Kotwali Police Station of Mymensingh at 3:00am on Friday, said a PBI press release today.

Police earlier recovered the body of Md Arifur Rahman, 46, member of East Kerowa union 6 of Raipur upazila of Lakshmipur district, in a paddy field at Tarakanda, Mymensingh on January 1.

Ayesha Akhter, wife of the deceased, filed a murder case with Tarakanda Police Station against unidentified accused on January 2.

PBI's Mymensingh Superintendent of Police Md Rakibul Akhter said the arrestees are members of a kidnapping gang.

They first abducted the UP member in a microbus and killed him in a paddy field at Tarakanda, Mymensingh as he tried to escape and screamed for help, he said.

"We arrested four criminals after being confirmed of their involvement in the murder of UP member Arifur Rahman," he said.
