Rape case convict arrested after 17 years

Rab arrested a convict in a rape case on Monday, who had been on the run for the last 17 years.

Md Masum, 48, was sentenced to life term imprisonment by a Gopalganj court in 2006 in the case filed with Kotalipara Police Station in 2002. He has been a fugitive since then, said Lt Col Arif Mohiuddin Ahmed, commanding officer of Rab-3, in a statement issued yesterday.

Acting on a tip-off, a Rab team arrested Masum from Dhaka's Sayedabad area.
