Rape of domestic help: Arrest warrant issued against Kapasia UP chairman

A Gazipur court has issued an arrest warrant against a union parishad chairman in Kapasia upazila of Gazipur in a case filed for allegedly raping his domestic help.

Gazipur Women and Children Repression Prevention tribunal issued the arrest warrant on Thursday, but it came to light today, reports our Gazipur correspondent quoting court bench assistant Main Uddin Kiran.

According to locals, Kapasia UP Chairman Sakhawat Hossain Pradhan, also president of Kapasia upazila unit Jubo League, is on the run since the victim's father filed a rape case under Women & Children Repression Prevention Act against him with the Gazipur court on August 31 last year.

According to the case statement, Sakhawat raped his sixteen-year-old domestic help several times. At one stage, she became pregnant and finally gave birth to a baby girl on August 16 the last year.

The girl claimed that the Kapasia Union Parishad chairman is the "father of the child".

Rahul Amin, Kapasia upazila social service officer, said the girl and her child are kept at Child Development Centre (CDC), known as Sishu Unnyan Kendra, in Konabari Gazipur, as per the court order.
