UNO's vehicle attacked after forest land eviction drive in Gazipur

A person was injured as miscreants vandalised the vehicle of Sreepur upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) following an eviction drive on the forest land in Gazipur today.

The name of the injured, who is a forest department driver, was not known immediately. He was initially sent to a hospital for treatment.

The incident took place on the west side of the rail gate of Izzatpur Bazar after a joint force conducted the drive in Sreepur around 3:00pm.

Arnab, captain of Gazipur's Porabari Wildlife Centre, 46 Div Locating Artillery, said, "When we were returning to our destination after the land eviction operation, a group of 20-25 people attacked our vehicles. They hurled brick chunks and stones and vandalised the UNO's vehicle. I cannot say exactly who carried out the attack."

"A driver received injuries during the attack," he confirmed.

Sreepur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Barrister Sajib Ahmed told The Daily Star that legal action will be taken in this regard.

According to forest department, the eviction drive was conducted by joint forces against illegal occupation of forest department land. Four acres of forest land was recovered today during the drive.
