Woman killed by husband during altercation in Faridpur, family says
A woman was allegedly killed by her husband in Faridpur's Bhati Lakshmipur under area Sadar upazila.
The victim was identified as Lipi Begum, 45.
Quoting family and neighbours, police said the victim's husband, Shafikul Islam, 61, allegedly stabbed her in the throat with a knife during an altercation at their house and then fled. The incident took place around 11:30 am.
Jahangir Alam, sub-inspector of Faridpur Kotwali Police Station who prepared the inquest report, said legal procedures were underway. He added that no case had been filed yet and police were trying to detain the accused.
He added that family members took Lipi to Faridpur General Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival. Police later sent the body to Faridpur Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Relatives told police the couple had long been at odds and often quarrelled. They had one son and two daughters.
Eyewitness Smriti Akter, 12, the victim's granddaughter, told this correspondent, "My grandfather asked my grandmother to give him warm clothes. Then he accused her of having relations with another man. He suddenly pulled out a knife and slit her throat. I screamed, and neighbours rushed in."
The couple's son, Ponir Islam, 28, said, "My parents used to quarrel often. On Wednesday night, they fought again and my father left home. The next morning, he came back, stabbed my mother, and ran away."
