A fire broke out from a speaker cable during the "Celebrating July 36" event at Manik Mia Avenue in Dhaka this afternoon, leaving at least 10 people injured.

Event hosts made an announcement through the microphone at 2:17pm, asking everyone to stay calm and move away from the speaker box.

"The speaker cable caught fire. Organisers, please take care of it," one of the hosts said.

"Some balloons caught fire too. Kindly stay calm. There is no reason to panic," another host added.

The organisers and volunteers quickly rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control.

Rafi Al Farooq, the duty officer of the control room of Fire Service and Civil Defence, said, "A firefighting unit was already at the scene, and they took immediate action."

Several people were injured during the incident and were taken to the hospital from the stage area, our reporter said from the spot.

Among the injured, 10 people were given primary treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, said Dr Shawon Bin Rahman, resident surgeon at the institute.
