Dhaka court denies bail to Latif Siddique, journalist Monjurul Alam in anti-terrorism case
A Dhaka court today rejected the bail petitions of former minister and expelled Awami League leader Abdul Latif Siddique and journalist Monjurul Alam Panna in an anti-terrorism case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasib Ullah Pias passed the order after petitions were submitted seeking their bail, said defence lawyer Farzana Yeasmin Rakhi.
State lawyer Md Shamsuddoha Sumon opposed the pleas.
Yesterday, the defence withdrew a bail petition for Latif Siddique hours after filing it, as his family failed to provide the required documents in time, which they filed today -- only to be turned down.
Yesterday, another Dhaka court denied bail to freedom fighter Golam Mostafa, Zakir Hossain, Tawsiful Bari Khan, Amir Hossain Sumon, Shafiqul Islam Delwar, and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) leader Abdullahil Kayum in the same case.
All 16 accused were previously sent to jail on August 29 after being produced before the court.
