HC directs EC to register BMJP as political party

The High Court today directed the Election Commission to register Bangladesh Minority Janata Party (BMJP) as a political party.

The bench of Justice Sashanka Shekhar Sarkar and Justice AKM Rabiul Hassan delivered the order following a petition filed by BMJP's President Sukriti Kumar Mondal challenging the legality of the EC's refusal to register his organisation as a political party.

Lawyers Tajul Islam and Md Omar Faruk appeared for the petitioner, while Advocate Muntasir Mahmud Rahman and assisted by lawyer ANM Ashiqur Rahman Khan represented the EC during hearing of the petition.

Lawyer Muntasir Mahmud Rahman told The Daily Star that the next step will be taken after discussing with the commission.
