BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman has expressed deep sorrow over the fire at a garment factory and chemical warehouse in Mirpur's Rupnagar area, in Dhaka, which killed at least 16 people today.

In a post on his verified Facebook profile at 8:38pm, Tarique Rahman said, "I am deeply saddened by the tragic fire at the Mirpur RMG factory and chemical warehouse that claimed at least 16 lives. May Allah grant eternal peace to the departed souls, and may He bless the injured with a swift and full recovery."

He called on the authorities to take "immediate and decisive action" to ensure transparency in the investigation and to hold those responsible accountable. He also stressed the importance of enforcing proper workplace safety standards to prevent further loss of life due to negligence.

"Heartbreaking incidents like these repeat themselves, leaving behind grief and many questions," he wrote, adding that his thoughts and prayers were with the families of the victims and all those affected.
