Hope Jamaat joins future pro-democracy movement: BNP's Nazrul Islam Khan

BNP Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan today expressed optimism that Jamaat-e-Islami will participate in future movements aimed at restoring democracy in Bangladesh.

"We hope that in the coming days, we will all be part of the movement to re-establish democracy, and they (Jamaat) will also be involved," Nazrul said after a meeting with BNP's liaison committee at the party chairperson's Gulshan office this morning.

Dismissing claims of growing distance between BNP and Jamaat, he said, "There is no issue of distance here. Jamaat also wants democracy, elections, and people's rights, just as we do. But if anyone claims they are the only patriots, naturally, we would feel hurt. We hope such remarks will not be made."

On BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's health, Nazrul said she is currently receiving treatment at a clinic in London and is recovering well.
