Jamaat ameer meets European parliament delegation
A four-member delegation of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, led by its Ameer Shafiqur Rahman, held a meeting with representatives of the European Parliament at the EU Embassy in Dhaka yesterday.
The Jamaat delegation also included Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Porwar, and Jamaat ameer's Foreign Affairs Adviser Prof Mahmudul Hasan.
Following the meeting, Taher told reporters that the discussion was cordial and focused on the current political situation in Bangladesh, including the upcoming February elections.
"They mainly asked whether the election would be free and fair, and how it would be conducted," he said during a press briefing.
Meanwhile, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen yesterday paid a courtesy call on the Jamaat ameer at the latter's office in Dhaka's Bashundhara.
During the meeting, they discussed matters relating to bilateral interests including existing ties in economic, political, commercial and diplomatic sectors.
They also expressed the hope that the existing bilateral relations between the two countries would be strengthened further in the days to come.
Chinese Embassy's Political Wing Director Zhang Jing, Jamaat's Assistant Secretary General Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, were present, among others.
