Shadik Kayem casts vote, hopeful of victory in Ducsu polls
Abu Shadik Kayem, vice-president candidate from the Islami Chhatra Shibir-backed panel, expressed optimism about winning the Dhaka University Central Students' Union polls.
"I urge students to come to the centres and cast their votes for their chosen candidates," he said after casting his vote at the Udayan school centre around 8:45am.
"This election is very important as people across the country are keeping an eye on Dhaka University. We want to send a positive message to the nation through these polls," he added.
Shadik said their goal was to set an example of democratic practice on campus.
"We want everyone to work together to build the dream Dhaka University. We hope students will put their trust in the candidates of the United Students Alliance," he said.
Asked whether his panel would accept the results, Shadik said, "We are observing the situation. We hope all stakeholders, including polling officials and candidates, will act responsibly."
He also alleged that candidates backed by Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal were violating the electoral code of conduct at some centres by setting up tables and giving voter slips to students within 100 metres of the voting centres.
