UAE police honoured the expat Bangladeshi Mohammad Kafiluddin Mohuri (40), hailing from Gopalghata village under Fatikchhari upazila of Chattogram, for his generosity which hogged headlines in various newspapers of the country.
Failing to find out the owner for a long time, Kafiluddin returned the money to police.
A special programme was organised at Naif Police Station in Dubai where Cornel Omar Ashur, deputy director of the police facility handed over a certificate and a token of gift to Kafiluddin for his moral conduct, honesty and good behavior.
Praising Kafiluddin, Brigadier Tarik Mohammad Nur Ahlaq, director of Naif Police Station said, "Dubai Police believes in the cooperation of all sections of the society."
After being honoured by police, Kafiluddin, a contractor by profession, expressed his joy and gratitude to police.
While narrating the story to journalists, Kafil said he found an abandoned bundle wrapped in black tape at Al Sabkha area, adjacent to Bur Mosque in Deira on August 29 while parking his car.
Kafil collected the bundle and kept it in his house, failing to find the owner.
He opened the bundle and found the money. Later, Kafil informed the matter to an adjacent restaurant and asked to contact him if anyone appeared at the restaurant and asked for the money.
He waited till September 5 and later handed the money over to Naif Police Station failing to find the real owner.
"I never had greed for other's wealth and I learnt it from my family. I handed over the money to the police as it was my moral responsibility," said Kafil.
Kafil thinks that Bangladeshis are known as honest and hardworking abroad. His honesty will further enhance the reputation of Bangladesh in foreign lands.
