A Bangladeshi man who was arrested on November 5 for making derogatory remarks on social media regarding the Hindu festival Diwali has been jailed for four months for overstaying in the country, reports Free Malaysia Today.

Miah Akas (29) was given 4-month imprisonment by the Muar Magistrates' Court in Malaysia on November 16, according to Johor Police Chief Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.

The investigation against him for allegedly threatening public order and peace with the communal clip was still pending, the police chief told Free Malaysia Today.

Khan at a press conference on November 7 said the Bangladeshi man was arrested in Muar district of Johor state in connection with a video that was posted on social media related to Hinduism, Muslims, and the Diwali festival.

In the TikTok video, Akas said those celebrating Diwali did not pray in the morning while during Hari Raya, Muslims prayed first. He said it was a celebration of "infidels" and told people in general not to follow it.
