A Bangladeshi expatriate in Japan has been awarded for assisting police in the country.

Saitama police administration in Japan handed over a certificate of appreciation to Jahidul Islam, hailing from Brahmanpara of Cumilla on Monday.

Jahidul Islam, who left Bangladesh for Japan in 2016 for higher education, lives in Warabi under Saitama Prefecture near Tokyo and holds a job in the town.

On the night of November 17, Jahidul found a person, who passed out after drinking, lying on a street while he was returning home from his workplace.

The bicycle belonging to the man was fallen on the road, causing traffic disruption.

The traffic returned to normalcy after Jahidul picked up the unconscious man and his bicycle and brought them to the roadside.

He also phoned the local police in this connection and tried to help the man regain consciousness.

Later, a police team rushed to the spot and praised Jahidul for his work and arranged treatment for the man. The law enforcement also took detailed information of Jahidul to contact him later. 

Following the incident, Saitama police administration in Japan handed over a certificate of appreciation to Jahidul Islam on December 13 as recognition, for assisting Japanese police, where they mentioned Bangladesh along with Jahidul's name.

The certificate mentions that he helped the police by taking measures to prevent a possible accident by helping the person sleeping on a road in a drunken state.
