In the City of London Common Council election, Shahnan, (39), ran as an independent candidate in Broad Street.

"There are 25 wards in the City of London. Depending on the size of the electorate, two to ten councillors are chosen to represent each of the city corporation's 25 wards "Shahagir Bakht, Shahnan's father, stated.

On March 24, the City of London held elections to choose who would lead the Square Mile.

Independent councillors were re-elected in 2022, retaining control of the city.

Shahnan Bakht's ward is Broad Street. He is the vice chairman of a local investment bank.

Born and raised in the UK, Shahnan's ancestral home is in the Arpinnagar area of Sunamganj municipal town.

His father Shahagir Bakht, who now lives in the UK, was a professor at Sunamganj Government College. Shahagir moved to the island nation in northwestern Europe in 1973, according to family sources.

He is the former chairman and current chief adviser of the British-Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce.
