3 fined Tk 13.12 lakh for damaging a hill in Moulvibazar

Three people including a union parishad chairman have been fined Tk 13.12 lakh for cutting through a hill in Moulvibazar without permission from Department of Environment.

Badrul Huda, assistant director of DoE office in Moulvibazar, said three people -- Joychandi UP Chairman Kamar Uddin Ahmad, UP member of 6 no. ward Monu Mia and one Elais Mia – have repaired a road after cutting the hill.

"I visited the road and hill and reported it to Sylhet divisional director of the department of environment," the official said.

Yesterday, the three were fined and asked to pay the fine within seven working days.

They have also been asked to plant trees on the hill in a month, the official added.
