999 helpline: 2 children among 5 workers rescued from brick kiln
Police today rescued five workers including two children who were confined in a brick kiln in Pirojpur's Indurkani after receiving a call for help through the helpline number 999.
After getting information through 999, police raided the brick kiln of Niaz Brick Industries at Kholpatua village yesterday and rescued five workers, said Officer-in-Charge of Indurkani Police Station Mohammad Humayun Kabir.
The rescued workers are Mafizur Rahman (8), Sagar Hossain (9) and Aliraj Hossain (18) of Shrifalkati village in Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira.
They were confined at Kholpatua village and forced to work against their will. Of them, Aliraj and Rashedul were kept in chains, the OC said.
The law enforcers also arrested two people--Shah Alam and Solaiman--from the spot in connection with the incident, OC Humayun Kabir told our local correspondent.
Rashedul, one of the victims, filed a case against five people with the police station today.
The arrestees were sent to jail through the court this afternoon, the OC said adding that the rescued workers have been handed over to their families.
